Ensuring Compliance with EU Regulations for HDPE Packaging in Crop Protection Products, CropLife Europe has taken steps to comply with various EU regulations regarding the recycling and re-use of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packages, specifically designed for Crop Protection Products (CPP). Recognizing the complexities and requirements involved, CLE established a dedicated working group tasked with addressing the necessary actions to fulfill regulatory obligations. When introducing CPP products to the market in new containers manufactured from, or containing, recycled HDPE, it is essential to ensure that these packages do not contain unacceptable levels of residual Pesticide Active Ingredients from previous uses. The presence of such contaminants could pose risks to both product integrity and regulatory compliance. To address these concerns, CropLife Europe collaborated with a team of experts from Lleida University in Spain. Together, they developed and validated a reliable analytical method capable of detecting and quantifying traces of AIs in recycled HDPE containers. This method provides assurance that recycled packaging meets stringent safety and quality standards required.
The validated analytical method is now available for use, supporting the safe and compliant introduction of CPP products in recycled HDPE packaging.
