CropLife Europe reaction to COREPER on the Food and Feed Safety Omnibus

In response to the fact that no agreement was reached, Olivier de Matos, Director General, CropLife Europe, said:

“The fact that no agreement was reached today shows that Member States need a proper discussion, without rushing the process and with a clear focus on simplification.

The Omnibus is meant to simplify the framework and accelerate access to innovation. The discussions underline how important it is not to lose sight of that objective.

National authorities are already dealing with significant capacity constraints. This is why reform must deliver meaningful, targeted simplification that frees up resources and helps authorities focus on new applications and innovation.

At a time when farmers are losing tools faster than they are gaining new ones, Europe should be making the system more predictable, more efficient and more supportive of investment and competitiveness.

Any final outcome must avoid adding uncertainty and administrative burden; otherwise, it risks worsening the very challenges this reform was meant to address.”
