In the interest of accuracy and transparency, we are publishing the full response provided to journalist of Grilled.media regarding the Food and Feed Safety Omnibus.
“Under Regulation 1107/2009, mutual recognition concerns the authorisation of the same plant protection product for the same use under comparable agricultural conditions; it does not create an unconditional right for a pesticide authorised in one Member State to be used throughout the EU.
Member States retain the ability, in the circumstances provided for under EU law, to impose additional risk-mitigation measures or, where justified under EU law, to refuse, amend or withdraw authorisations in their territory. Member States also retain powers under EU law to take national protective measures in defined circumstances. Mutual recognition does not in itself remove these safeguards.
CropLife Europe supports the principle of mutual recognition as a means of improving consistency between Member States, avoiding duplication of assessments already undertaken by another competent national authority and improving the functioning of the Single Market. CropLife Europe is not advocating the removal of safeguards available to Member States under EU law.
More broadly, CropLife Europe supports a regulatory framework that is predictable, science-based and efficient, while maintaining the safeguards provided for under EU legislation.”
